Paranormal Series Gets A Redo

My rights reverted for my 2017 series BOOKE OF THE HIDDEN, a paranormal romance about a girl, a mysterious book, misfit Wiccans, a Baphomet biker gang, and a handsome demon. What could possibly go wrong? A quirky-humorous yet edgy-romantic urban fantasy set in a small town in Maine.

It’s fun. A four-book series: Book 1: Booke of the Hidden, Book 2: Deadly Rising, Book 3: Shadows in the Mist, and Book 4: The Darkest Gateway. It was all great fun to write, but a devil of a time to market into a completely different genre from my standard historical mysteries. As I discovered. People don’t really like to genre switch from their trusted authors. And the publisher didn’t help either. They published the first book under their name, Diversion, then the second one under an imprint, EverAfter Romance, and wouldn’t take the last two because they were transitioning to non-fiction sports books. Eh? Was it something I said? Yeah, it was a bad situation and there was zero promotion. I learned several things. Number One, never go with a publisher who won’t offer an advance. Your higher royalty rate won’t make one bit of difference if no one knows the book exists and it doesn’t sell. And Two (as a note to my agent), maybe research the company a little stricter to see if they are having internal troubles.

Anyway, that’s my long-winded way of saying that we are self-publishing the first two as my agent and I did with the last two. But I felt that the first book could have been a faster, tighter read and so I am going through the manuscript and trying to edit it down. And then I will be designing the cover spread still using the same front covers (I spent the first fifteen years of my adult life as a graphic designer and art director. Before computers. Now I know them.)

So be looking for those re-releases this year.
